Lake Blanche

I hiked with a friend to Lake Blanche. We were excited and eager at 10am when we set out and tired but proud of ourselves when we were able to reach our destination a few hours later. It was a beautiful day with a light breeze and it felt good to rest, take in the scenery, listen to the sounds and smell the trees and fresh air. We hiked down again (2.8 miles and 2000+ ft. elevation change) and arrived home around 5pm. It was a wonderful opportunity to talk about so many things ranging from her questions and challenges in marriage and my experiences with my friends and family. I'm glad I was able to take the time to get to know my friend better and spend time enjoying the beauty of the earth.

Here' a poem that describes what I saw on my hike on Saturday:

Spring and All

by William Carlos Williams

By the road to the contagious hospital

under the surge of the blue

mottled clouds driven from the

northeast--a cold wind. Beyond the

waste of broad, muddy fields

brown with dried weeds, standing and fallen

patches of standing water

the scattering of tall trees

All along the road the reddish

purplish, forked, upstanding, twiggy

stuff of bushes and small trees

with dead, brown leaves under them

leafless vines--

Lifeless in appearance, sluggish

dazed spring approaches--

They enter the new world naked,

cold, uncertain of all

Beginning in the next few weeks I will be visiting national parks, nature trails and even some beautiful gardens and yards to show the beauty that can be found in nature.

It's been a few months since my last post. I had a quiet holiday season. My life is overall much quieter than it has ever been and I have been healthier than I've ever been. I never thought spending time with fewer activities could be so liberating. I have time to plan, time to relax and take care of things.

I started a Design class at SLCC in January and have been enjoying being there. I recently aquired a MAC G4 from Jeff with the Adobe suite that will be very helpful. My job is more fulfilling than ever. I really look forward to my days.

I have met some good friends that I go with to movies, hiking, and church activities.

Roadtrip through country

My friend, Alison, bought a car from her sister in D.C. and we drove it back. We hit all the historical US sites as well as historical LDS Church sites. It was a lot of fun, but I was glad to be home.

Oct. 9-12 Thursday-Sunday: Washington D.C. and vicinity. We visited the Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln, FDR, Vietnam, Lincoln, Holocaust, and WWII memorials. They were all powerful and really distinct. We also saw the Smithsonians

Monday: Pennsylvania. We travelled to visit a man that Alison knew on her mission in a little rest home and then on to another member family that she knew. We went to a recommended Philly cheesesteak place and also got Rita's Italian Ice that was delicious. We travelled to Valley Forge and spent some time there. We then hurried onward toward Amish country in Lancaster, Ohio. We picked up a few items and then went to Gettysburg. We arrived at our host family's house that evening.

Tuesday: We toured Gettysburg at the break of dawn (literally) to help out our schedule. Our tour guide was a couple that Alison knew from her mission and he worked at the museum, so he really knew his stuff. Really fun couple. Traveled on to southern Ohio, a city called Powell, to stay with Alison's cousin and family. We relaxed that night just chatting.

Wednesday: We're off again, toward Illinois. We make it through Indiana and stop for lunch at the Indiana State Museum. We head toward Springfield Illinois, arriving around 4pm to visit the Lincoln Museum just before it closes. It was great! One of my favorite museums. Not as grand as some of the others, but very well put together. We then travel toward Nauvoo, Illinois and stop in a little town outside Carthage to sleep.

Thursday: We travel to Carthage, Illinois and visit the Carthage jail where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred. We then travel to Nauvoo and visit the Community of Christ buildings that belonged to the Smith family and then toward historic Nauvoo and the print shop, the cultural hall, the bakery and the brick maker. We were then able to do a session in the Nauvoo temple. I could really feel the Spirit during that session. It was really neat.

We stayed in Nauvoo that night and were up very early the next morning.

Friday: Independence Missouri area. We went through Missouri and went a little off the beaten path toward Adam-ondi-oman and Far West. We didn't make it to Haun's Mill. Then we went to Liberty Jail and took a tour there. We then went into Independence Missouri and took a quick look at the visitors center. We asked the sister missionaries where we could get some good bbq. They recommended Gates bbq and we traveled to Kansas City. It was delicious. (I loved all the food on this trip) Then we headed north to Nebraska. My mission! We arrived in Winter Quarters about 6:30 and took a quick tour of the visitor center and cemetary. We also took some photos of the temple. It was really neat to be back there. We then went toward Missouri Valley and stayed the night there. I did get a chance to visit Pres. Moore and his wife Kyoko in Mondamin, Iowa for a little while.

Saturday: We travelled west across Nebraska. We listened to books and movies and it made the trip more bearable. We went as far as Cheyenne WY on I-80 and then traveled into Colorado. We took a course toward Glenwood Springs where there were hot springs that were made into a swimming pool. Tons of people there and they all seemed really old... Anyway, we only spent a few minutes there, but decided to drive into Utah that night. Got home around 1:00am and crashed for the night. Finally Home!!!

September 22- My 34th birthday. I went in to work and then was persuaded by many co-workers to leave early and go have fun. My boss gave me a great card and brought cupcakes. I went and saw my great-Aunt Charlaine who has Alzheimer's but was very aware today when I saw her. I was glad that she recognized me. I am home, and this relaxing hour before people start coming and going is "fun" for me. I may go hiking this evening.

I've got a roadtrip planned for October. My friend Alison, bought a car from her sister who lives in D.C. and is driving it back to Utah and asked if I'd go with her. She and I are going to spend a week traveling back. Included on our itinerary is a visit to Gettysburg, Valley Forge, Amish country in Ohio, the Smithsonian, the hot springs in Glenwood Springs, CO, and Nauvoo and the temple there. (not in that order). We may also stop in my mission, if time permits. Many pictures to come...

Dog/House sitting-- Gwendolynn Gentry and her husband Eric asked me to watch Gretta for two weeks while they picked up Uncle Bob and Aunt Rose from their mission in Hungary. She's adorable.

I went to Lakeside campground to meet Mom and Dad and Amy and the kids. Mom and Dad are in town to see Jeff's family at the Munroe family reunion. We ate dinner, then talked and took a walk on the path next to the campground. Dad attempted fishing, but didn't catch the big one he saw in the creek.

MOVING again... I moved in with Sarah at the beginning of june. However, I've decided that I'd like to live in a place without pets and have found a room in Draper. So excited! It's got an enormous kitchen and I'll have an enormous bed in my room that's fully furnished. I'll be moving throughout August. It's a beautiful neighborhood and I've got one other roommate named Amelia.

I got called today as the email specialist on the communications committee at church, and as the Relief Society chorister. I feel blessed to have two opportunities to learn as I'm still somewhat primitive in my technology skills and I usually only wave back and forth to lead music.

This church helps me to do better at work because I think that as I focus on doing what's right, it flows over into my everyday tasks as well. I feel strengthened by the Lord when I try my best.

Loved going home last week. I had been working way too hard and my boss, Tomi, assigned me to RELAX! So, I went home. It was nice having no schedule and lots to do, but choosing whether to do it or not. Sean, Laura and the kids were home so we hung out and played the Wii. I talked with some old friends, and went swimming and fishing. I also took the time to drive to the mountain and enjoy the beautiful area. I went back to work completely ready to tackle the projects that were waiting.
